I'm not sure what it is about walking in the woods, alone with my thoughts. It's quiet, except for the sound of my feet and the crunching leaves on the trail, maybe a bird, or some little critter dusting up leaves as he scurries along the ground. But that's it. It's kind of like all the stuff in life takes a back seat—that to do list, work, anything that's annoying you.
When I look at this photograph, I remember loving that I'd found this fallen tree with the mushrooms growing on it. They were just interesting, you know? And there were enough leaves on the trees, both green and gold, that there was this overall warm color to everything around me.
The next time you're out for a walk, you don't even need a camera to capture those little moments. Just take a minute to just stand there and really look and listen to what's around you.
The Woodlands is also part of the collection of images for my Nature's Beauty Trees & Travel 2018 calendar.
