Two of my Images Chosen for Local Art Exhibit
I recently applied to a local juried art exhibit being sponsored by Paramount Center for the Arts called Through My Eyes. And BOTH images were chosen. Totally excited about this! (Just because you submit more than one, doesn't mean you get one, or any at all, accepted. So yah, it's a big deal.)
Black & White Photography as a Metaphor for Diversity
The theme of the exhibit focuses on sharing our values. Diversity is something I strongly believe in. Diversity in thought, society, race, and politics (yes, I said the "p" word). And I was struck by how my b&w images reflected that diversity in that they weren't just black, or just white, but all shades between, too.
This application needed an artist statement for each image, and mine were identical except for the words film or digital.
A juried exhibit means that there is a judge (for the lack of a better word) who decides out of "x" number of entries, fewer than that are chosen. There can be a theme to the exhibit, which is true for Through My Eyes. From the Paramount's website:
"The focus of this competition will be for artists to offer work that will share and show their values. The hope is that creative exploration will help artists and viewers alike to make personal meaning of the world around us and will foster connections between diverse people with varying perspectives."
I can't wait to see all the artists' work and how they show their values in their art!
