What goes into choosing which photographs go in the Nature's Beauty Calendars?
The first thing I do is look at current and past year images, peaking into folders to see what will catch your eye, then add these images to a folder. Often there are far more than 12 or 24 images that I’ve chosen, so I know there will be some whittling down. Many of you gaze at these images while taking a mental break while sitting at your desk, so I want the images to be peaceful, to "take you away", or be beautiful.
Second, I have to make sure I don't duplicate a photograph from a prior year. That's getting a little more difficult, as I think this is the 6th year! I always have work from prior years that I’m just dying to share with you.
I also have to be sure the image will work horizontally. So many images can't be used that are vertical, especially now with the larger wall calendar images. I can't crop or the images may look fuzzy. (Can't have that!)
And believe it or not, I do put thought into the order of the images. What should be in the December "Trees & Travel" calendar? I try to put "warmer" images in the winter, since most of my customers live in the northern hemisphere. For the Flowers calendar, if I have an image of lupines, I put those in June, since I always associate seeing lupines with visiting my dad around Father's Day.
