It's been awhile since I've done an "About the Image" blog post, or even in my newsletter. So let's fix that!
About the Image
I've been staring at the printed version of this image for over a month now. I printed it as a 30x20" gallery wrapped canvas, and it's been leaning against the living room wall, so I've been seeing it every. single. day. (My office, a spare bedroom, is pretty full right now, so that's why my work has overflowed to the living room.)
Originally photographed about three years ago, I was never happy with the first way I edited this photograph. This past winter, I stumbled across the image again while looking through my archives and I saw something new—I envisioned something different.
I always thought the background of the image looked kind of stormy, like stormy clouds. That fluffiness you see is actually from a very large tree filled with white blooms. By experimenting digitally, I was able to create the feeling you see here now. The experimenting had more to do with subtle color toning - the "clouds" are a cooler shade, and the orange-red tulips are a warmer tone. Nothing crazy drastic like changing the tulip color to yellow.
