Take that first quote about reading as a writer. I can't look at a photograph or a movie without looking at how color, composition, and lighting were used and their effect on the scene. It's very difficult for me to only relax and look at the imagery. Not that I don't enjoy looking, but I probably look at photographs and movies from an additional technical and compositional view.
