I’ve been delaying a new blog post because I’ve been at a bit of a loss for what to write or post. Another photo? Some ramblings? But then I remembered that Wordpress has a bunch of ideas for blog post topics. It didn’t take long before I found this:
A genie has granted your wish to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like?
Which actually tied in really well to my quest to organize my office. When I started wondering if the camera crew from Hoarders might suddenly appear, I figured it was time to do something, ANYTHING, to get a little control over the chaos.
Don’t get me wrong. There’s still chaos. But at least it’s vertical chaos instead of horizontal (all over the floor) chaos. And it’s still a work in progress, because now that I have this vertical storage, I need to be a little more thoughtful as to where things are placed, and in what way. In a box? In a bin? Loose? Of course with all sorts of photography related things like paper, framed images and gallery wraps, business related paperwork, magazines, article clippings, a magic wand (more on that later), notebooks, journals, books, and a variety of other things that just need to be put somewhere.
And I still need to get some work done, so I figure doing this in stages makes the task less overwhelming. Baby steps, right?
So what “solved” my storage issue? Good old plastic shelving. It’s lightweight. Easy to assemble. Inexpensive. Did I say it’s lightweight? And a couple of the units I bought hold something like 600 pounds per shelf. Thank goodness my things aren’t that heavy! It’s not the prettiest, but it’s functional. And if I get this room whipped into shape, you just might see a photo.
And yes, the magic wand. I still need to mail this to a friend of my mom’s. (Sorry, Mom!) I had asked her friend once “if you had a magic wand, what would you change?” Do you know how difficult it is to find a magic wand? Apparently Harry Potter just isn’t that “in” anymore, so I settled for this too cutesy Belle wand (Belle, from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast). Another friend of mine can attest to the power and magic behind the magic wand. (A little secret —we all have this power. You just have to use it!)
So my perfect space for reading and writing? Well…THAT’S not going to happen. I don’t live by the ocean where Daniel Craig walks out of the water onto the beach.
